Our parishes run two Children’s Choirs in the Chew Valley: Mini Melodies and Jubilee! Run by our churches in Chew Valley West Benefice, the choirs will provide music-making opportunities for children aged 7 to 14. There are so many benefits to singing and being part of a choir, so we hope you will enjoy finding out more and will be inspired to join us.
Our choirs are open to everyone, whether you feel you have a connection with our churches or not. Mini Melodies is aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 9. Jubilee! is for an older age group, between 9/10 and 14 years old.
We will meet weekly during school term to make music together. Mini Melodies will introduce some of the basics of singing such as rhythm and melody through fun songs and activities. Members of Jubilee! will learn to sing music in a wide variety of styles.
Mini Melodies will meet at Chew Stoke Church School on Tuesdays, 3:30–4:30pm during school term. Jubilee! will meet at Chew Stoke Church School on Thursdays, 3:30–4:30pm during school term.
Mini Melodies : Tuesdays at 3:30pm
Jubilee! Thursdays at 3:30pm
Both choirs are free. Tuition and resources are provided.
Rehearsals will be run by our Rector, Rev Dr Ian Mills. Ian was a full-time musician before he was ordained to the ministry and comes to us with years of experience of music-making both in church and in the community. He has worked as a Cathedral Organist and with choirs such as the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland as well as recording, broadcasting and giving recitals.
Lots! Increased confidence, help with literacy and numeracy, experience of working as part of a team, and a sense of achievement are just some of the proven advantages of singing together.
